Gevels komen tot leven!
Een reguliere schilderbeurt was voor Woonbedrijf, woningcorporatie in Eindhoven, aanleiding om eens te kijken of er meer mogelijk was met de zijgevel van een appartementengebouw aan de Von Flotowlaan. Samen met de Studio Maatwerk en Studio 1:1, beiden uit Eindhoven is - voor het eerst - een geheel nieuwe techniek toegepast in de openbare ruimte: augmented reality oftewel toegevoegde realiteit. Op de zijgevel van het appartementengebouw is een schildering
aangebracht die in combinatie met een webtool op uw Smartphone ervoor zorgt dat u een nieuwe wereld kunt ervaren. De gevel komt tot leven!
For Woonbedrijf, a housing corporation in Eindhoven, a regular painting-job was the reason to look for more possibilities with the facade of an apartment building at the Von Flotowlaan in Eindhoven. The designers from Studio Maatwerk and Studio 1:1 came with the concept of applying a new technique, Augmented Reality, and using it in public space! For the first time, architecture is used in a direct way to implement augmented reality. In combination with the ‘marker’, which was painted on the facade of the building, and by downloading the free Application on your Android Smartphone you can experience a new world. Facades come to live!
En wat ziet u dan op het scherm van uw Smartphone? Een animatie die is ontwikkeld door studenten van de (nabijgelegen) Eindhovense school. Deze animatie is door het bedrijf Beyond Reality tot een werkende applicatie uitgewerkt. Uitgangspunt in dit project is het aanmoedigen van ontmoetingen in de openbare ruimte en ervoor zorgen dat er hierdoor meer binding ontstaat met de omgeving. De studenten van Eindhovense school zullen voor de gevel in contact komen met de bewoners uit het appartementen complex. En voortaan niet meer verleid worden om de muur te ‘sieren’ met graffiti.
And what do you see on the screen of your Smartphone? A game and animation developed by students from 'de eindhovense school', which is situated directly next to the apartment buildings. This forms the essence of the project; creating a better social coherence between the students of the nearby school with the residents of the apartment buildings. The company ‘Beyond Reality’ developed the files that were made by the students into the AR application: ‘OpenHuisAR’ (OpenhouseAR) that can be downloaded from the Android Market. A second important part in this project is to give people in public space with a new experience, and to bind people more with their own surroundings. Ideally the students from the ‘de eindhovense school’ will show the residents living in the apartment buildings how they can play the application on their own facades. And because the students were involved by creating the application, they have something they can be proud of, and care more for their own surroundings.
Even though ‘Woonbedrijf’ is a housing corporation, they often involve design in their strategy. For Woonbedrijf design is more than a nice chair, a stylish sofa or a beautiful designed lamp. Woonbedrijf sees design as a total philosophy: an innovation that adds value to their clients and tenants. Designers often come with the same practical means, to entirely different solutions and new visions. This is what Woonbedrijf wants to apply in their living environment and public spaces.
